Project Value:
£1.45mDates:
Nov 21 – May 22Overview
The Port of London Authority are planning to open the 200m long Plaistow and Royal Primrose wharves to commercial river traffic and business use. A condition survey was carried out to evaluate the condition of the wharves and give recommendations for repair prior to use. Keltbray were appointed as the Principle Contractor for the works with GPS Marine and Civil Services (GPS MACS) subcontracted for the works.
The PLA acquired three adjacent wharves, Peruvian, Plaistow, and Royal Primrose over the last five years as part of its Investment Plan, in order to bring them back into use for cargo handling. The PLA’s total investment in site acquisition and improvements readying them for operations is some £20 million.

- Port of Tilbury
- Royal Docks, London
Other Projects
Nearshore / Inland Warerways
Working on the challenging tidal River Thames
Health and Safety
Working on the challenging tidal River Thames
Innovation
Due to the previous uses of the wharves there were a large amount of ground obstructions presenting high risk to the piling operations. As such we incorporated the existing substructures into our design, eliminating the risk and reducing the amount of piles to be installed.
Conservation and Regeneration
Plaistow and Royal Primrose wharves form the riverside heart of a cluster of marine/industrial activity in East London, underpinning the low carbon movement of cargoes along the river, keeping lorries off the capital’s congested road network
