Overview

Marine and Civil Diving Services Ltd were contracted by CPBS Ltd to provide diving services for the removal of motor yacht “White Aster II” which had taken on water due to unknown reasons and sunk on the mooring at Poplar Marina. The dive team assisted the Multicat M.P.V. Gundog in it’s removal using airbags and lifting frame.

The “White Aster II” is a 1930’s motor yacht with 2 no. midship engines and estimated weight of 18T. Dimensions are 14.33m length x 3.96m beam x 1.22m depth. The vessel had been submersed for approximately 2 weeks at a depth of 7m. Bed level is alluvium / silt within the lock and divers are expected to have access around vessel, however the Port side is circa 1m off the mooring pontoon.

Divers secured lifting chains around the vessel and onto a lifting frame, which was secured to the multicat hiab. The divers then attached air bags to assist with the lift. Once the vessel was at surface, she was pumped out and the holes temporarily repaired for a safe tow to dry dock.
