Shore Power Thames Platforms
Project Value:
£1.3mDates:
March 22 – March 23Overview
We have been engaged by Net Zero Marine Services (NZMS) to design and build 2 no. platforms on the River Thames at West India Pier and Lambeth Pier. NZMS is driving the transition to a zero emissions marine environment, with the plan to build shore power infrastructure at strategic locations across the UK, preparing the sector for significant investment in the zero emissions marine market.
We are working with the Distribution Network Operator (UK Power Networks) to extend the High Voltage (HV 11,000 Volts) network to these two locations. The proposed platforms shall be constructed of reinforced concrete, supported on steel tubular piles that will be driven into the riverbed. The platforms will house the substations, with power feeds down the existing marine infrastructure (brow and pontoon) to charging points at the berth.
Scope of works to be completed at each site as follows:
- Mobilisation of Jack Up Barge, material barges and plant and equipment via River Thames
- 6 no. marine piles driven into the riverbed
- Installation of precast concrete deck and in-situ concrete stitches
- Installation of concrete parapet and handrail
- Installation of access walkway
- Coring river wall and feeding power cables through cable bridge into concrete deck
- Install of grab chains, flood gate, security fencing, drainage, etc
Install of M&E plant and equipment
Design
- Full design and specification for the structures
Project Management
- Obtain the necessary river works licences from the river regulators: Port of London Authority, Environmental Authority and the Marine Management Organisation.
- Coordinate the design between all parties of structural, M&E, Client and licencing.
- Management of delivery, from concept stage through to construction and commissioning.
Engineering
- Stability analysis for the barges
- Deck loading analysis for the barges
- Planned, supervised, and carried out all lifting operations on site (landside and marine).
- Design and installation of temporary works, namely pile gates and access walkways
- Site engineering including quality assurance, setting out and surveying, drawings, coordinating works and planning of operations
Marine Logistics
- Planned, supervised and carried out mobilisation of all marine plant to site. Including floating crane transfers, assembly of Jack Up Barges.
- Passage plans for challenging tows, most notably the Jack Up Barge
- Delivery of material barges, planned around the tides to ensure site was always stocked with material for the works.
- Utilised the following key sites for supporting the project:
- Port of Tilbury
- Royal Docks, London
Construction
Construction of the shore power platforms at each location, consisting of:
- 6 no. marine piles driven into the riverbed
- Installation of precast concrete deck and in-situ concrete stitches
- Installation of concrete parapet and handrail
- Installation of access walkway
- Coring river wall and feeding power cables through cable bridge into concrete deck
- Install of grab chains, flood gate, security fencing, drainage, etc
Install of M&E plant and equipment
